UK and US Launch Golden Age of Clean Nuclear Power

The UK Government has announced that a golden age for nuclear clean energy between the UK and United States of America has been agreed and will help accelerate the growth of new nuclear power stations.

A raft of agreements are being signed with plans to:

  • build a fleet of advanced modular reactors (X-Energy & Centrica)
  • develop advanced data centres powered by small modular reactors (Holtec, EDF & Tritax)
  • establish one of the first micro modular reactors in the world (Last Energy & DP World)
  • supply advanced HALEU fuel to the US market (Urenco & Radiant)
  • conduct studies for Natrium advanced reactors (TerraPower & KBR)

The Board of Nuclear PSG said “Momentum is building in the sector with this announcement along with the recent news about Sizewell C and the Rolls Royce SMR programme. It is now crystal clear that nuclear energy generation will form the bedrock for clean energy delivery and security in the UK. In addition it will help secure and grow high value jobs in the sector which will top the near 100,000 people in the sector already but also bring certainty for the supply chain with inward investment and export opportunities. The impact across the UK should not be underestimated. Our members look forward supporting businesses in their aspirations to successfully bid for and deliver on nuclear contracts”
