Birketts is a full service, UK Top 50 law firm. With a heritage spanning over 160 years, we have more than 700 lawyers and legal professionals based in Bristol, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Ipswich, London, Norwich, and Sevenoaks. We advise businesses, government and public sector organisations and individuals in the UK and internationally across four principal practice groups: real estate, corporate services, dispute resolution and private client.
Our energy and infrastructure sector team supports clients across major infrastructure, energy and projects, providing multidisciplinary advice throughout the project lifecycle. Drawing together expertise from employment, real estate, planning and environmental, construction, corporate, commercial, regulatory and dispute resolution teams, we help clients navigate complex legal, commercial and operational challenges. Birketts acts for developers, landowners, and investors in renewable energy. The team advises on a wide range of developments: photovoltaic (ground mount and rooftop), battery, EV infrastructure, wind power, anaerobic digestion, combined heat and power (CHP) networks, utilities connections and associated land rights, infrastructure projects, data centres, as well as newer technologies such as hydrogen.
We are defined by our next level law proposition. We work with our clients as a proactive partner, horizon scanning and thinking ahead to the changes, challenges or opportunities that they may face. Our sector-led approach combines legal expertise with a deep understanding of the industries in which our clients operate, enabling us to provide practical, commercially focused advice on strategically significant projects.
Our experience
Sizewell C legal panel:
Birketts has provided ongoing advice in connection with land acquisitions and transactions for sites associated with Sizewell C, the nuclear power station currently under construction on the Suffolk coast. As a member of Sizewell C’s legal panel, the Commercial Real Estate department continues to work closely with the team tasked with the delivery of Sizewell C. We have secured multiple privately negotiated option agreements with landowners across the region for land required for supporting infrastructure (such as transport and accommodation facilities). As well as legal advice, we have also provided strategic and practical guidance on this dynamic, long-term project for the region, a project of national significance but with local sensitivities.
