Nuclear PSG visits Sizewell C – Developing Relationships to Work Together

Zoe Stollard and Dale Edwards board members of the Nuclear PSG were warmly welcomed to the Sizewell C visitor centre by Ashley Shorey-Mills of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and members of the Financial, Insurance & Professional Services Group (FIPS).

At the new visitor centre, we were given a history of the development of Sizewell. Sizewell A the first reactor which went live in 1966 generating electricity for 40 years, with Sizewell B following in 1995 which continues to generate power today demonstrating a long, rich and proud history in the nuclear sector.

After the presentation and safety instructions, all enjoyed one of the first tours of the Sizewell C construction site to see how much progress has been made since the decision to proceed to build the new EPR reactors which will deliver clean secure energy for 6 million homes for over 60 years. Dale commented “how the construction site was so familiar yet different to when he visited the Hinkley Point C site at a similar stage of  construction as the reactors at Sizewell will be a near copy of HPC”.

Following the tour all decamped to the Bell at Saxmundham to discuss how the PSG, Supply Chain and FIPS could work collaboratively to support the Sizewell project and the wider civil nuclear industry. We all got to know each other’s aims and objectives and after constructive and productive conversation it was agreed to explore in further detail how we could develop a close working relationship.

The following morning Zoe and Dale met some of Ashley’s Suffolk Chamber Supply Chain Engagement team to get to know each other before heading off to see some of the site support operations including construction passenger transport and logistics.

Zoe Stollard, Chair of the PSG said “A big thank you to Ashley for organising a wonderful couple of days activities and meetings. It is clear there are plenty of synergies between the organisations to help maximise the impact of the project for UK businesses. We look forward to a close working relationship in months and years to come”

Ashley said “it was great to see Zoe and Dale. Having the opportunity of learning lessons from their time at HPC is exceptionally useful. Great to be involved in one of the early tours of the site and developing relationships further.”
